What is in a name? Monday, 07 July 2014

There are various names applied to people with epilepsy, including: epileptic, epilepsy sufferer, epilepsy patient, person/people with epilepsy (sometimes abbreviated to “PWE”) and more.

There are many ways to treat epilepsy. Doctors can prescribe one, or a combination of the many anti-epileptic medications. In some cases, the source of the epileptic activity can be so closely pinpointed through an MRI scan that brain surgery might be considered. If that’s not an option, or hasn’t worked, vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) could be another treatment.
