Move More March – Stretching

The first mini-challenge for Move More March has been set – it is to complete two minutes of stretching every day.

People with complex needs can face challenges when they start a new exercise program; but we passionately believe that if you take a creative approach, you can overcome any possible restrictions. Everyone can find a way to enjoy getting active while they improve their health and well-being.

We wanted to start with a physical challenge that was achievable for anyone, even people who felt that exercise hasn’t been for them, in the past. Crucially, we wanted to get people adopting a daily activity, which will hopefully start a habit of a lifetime!

Flexibility exercises such as stretching can be done anywhere. There is no need to have full mobility to take part, and regular stretching can have lots of benefits. Some of the benefits are:

• Improving your range of motion
• Helping to prevent injury
• Reducing pain and stiffness
• Aiding blood flow
• Helping with relaxation and stress

Things are already well on the way. Our fantastic Sports Therapist, Justin, is providing training and support for each individual to find exercises which suit them, ensuring they are also doing them safely. He has also included some resistance exercises, which are fantastic for building muscle, burning calories and strengthening bones.
