Our activities

Independence is key; service users are supported to build an activity programme which suits them and meets their individual goals.
Keyworking and goal setting are utilised to provide a pathway for continuous improvement.

Key workers meet regularly with service users to help them:

  • Identify goals and aspirations.
  • Consider skills, education and work
  • Develop step-by-step plans
  • Discuss activities and events they wish to take part in.

FOCUS - Learn. Develop. Socialise

FOCUS is our in-house activity programme which runs and coordinates over six hundred different options accessible to all services.

A programme of internal workshops organised on a weekly basis includes sports, arts and music which are all led by therapists or specialist facilitators. Access to a huge list of community activities is coordinated on either an individual basis or as part of a group.

Rock-climbing, hydro-therapy, horse riding and bowling are a small selection of the wide ranging activities on offer to service users.

Social Events

Larger annual events including parties are organised throughout the year. Smaller events take place regularly, for example coffee mornings and quiz nights and trips to a club where users can get together to allow residents across the services to socialise.
An active social life is encouraged as part of the individual’s programme of well-being.

Developing Skills and Accessing Work and Education

We consider the development of life skills an essential part of gaining independence. The type of skills will differ depending on the individual and may include such things as travel training, money management, preparing food or feeding yourself.

ASDAN courses offer qualifications and programmes catering for all abilities. They offer a flexible way for individuals to develop their skills and gain nationally recognised qualifications at their own pace and within their own environment.

Independence Homes provides support to access and complete the following ASDAN courses:

  • Personal development programmes
  • Short courses in more than 30 different subjects
  • Towards Independence programmes – preparing for work
